Raise your spirits with a first look at the new “Bloodshot” series from Valiant
I like what writer Kevin Grevioux has to say about Bloodshot down below. Specifically, that the “everything you know about this character is wrong” approach is exhausting and, quite often, reductive. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, his aim is to add new layers to an already complex character’s rich history. Not a bad approach, if I do say so.
With the new series Bloodshot Rising Spirit launching soon, Valiant have released a sneak preview of the first issue. Check it out below, along with said interview with writer Grevioux.
PREVIEW: BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT #1 Pulls Back the Curtain on Valiant’s Biggest Star on November 14th!
As first revealed at Inverse, Valiant is proud to present your first lettered and colored look within the pages of BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT #1, the first issue of an unstoppable new series that will forever redefine the origins of Valiant’s most unrelenting hero!
On November 14th, superstar writer Kevin Grevioux (New Mutants, the Underworld Franchise) joins the sensational creative team of Lonnie Nadler and Zac Thompson (Cable) and legendary artist Ken Lashley
(X-Men) for a gripping exploration into the first steps of the walking weapon of war known as...BLOODSHOT!
“One of the things I don't like is when writers come in and say, ‘Everything you thought you knew before was wrong,’” writer Kevin Grevioux told Inverse. “I think that's a slap in the face to both the creator and to longtime fans who've been with the character since inception. However, I do think you can enhance and add layers to the history without disturbing the essence of who the character is and what makes him tick. And that's what we'll be doing with RISING SPIRIT.”
Before a weapon is deployed in battle, it must be designed, refined, field-tested. Bloodshot was no exception. In the early days of the private military contractor Project Rising Spirit, the nanite-infused super-soldier who would one day become their most violent and valuable asset was a resource to be mined – and it was up to an enterprising team of scientists to ensure he did what he was told. But a memory is a tricky thing…and the man Bloodshot used to be won’t let go of his past so easily…
On November 14th, a brutal brain trust of comic elites come together to open a door once closed in BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT #1 – featuring covers by Felipe Massafera (Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors), David Mack (Kabuki), Staz Johnson (Robin), and Doug Braithwaite (SHADOWMAN)!
Bloodshot Rising Spirit #1 will hit comic shops and digital retailers on November 14.
