A pair of “Smooth Criminals” plan the heist of the century in a first look at the new series
There’s just something about “odd couple” stories that are incredibly appealing. Seeing two seemingly incompatible people, characters who couldn’t possibly be more different from one another, going on adventures is just a lot of fun. It makes sense, since different personality types can play off each other, and the strengths of each character can make up for weaknesses in the other.
Smooth Criminals, a new ongoing series from BOOM! Studios, is just the latest in the long history of stories featuring an odd couple pairing, and the publisher has released a first look at the debut issue. Join hacker Brenda as she stumbles upon the cryogenically frozen Mia, a super cool (ha HAAAAA) thief from the 60s. Hilarity will no doubt ensue. Check out the details below.
Your First Look At The Crime of The (Literal) Century in SMOOTH CRIMINALS!
Kiwi Smith, Kurt Lustgarten and Leisha Riddel Will Steal Your Hearts in November 2018
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 24, 2018) – BOOM! Studios today unveiled a first look at SMOOTH CRIMINALS #1, the new original ongoing series beginning in November 2018 from the acclaimed screenwriter Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith (Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You) and Kurt Lustgarten, the writing duo behind the smash hit Misfit City, and artist Leisha Riddel (Project Solace).
There are certain things Brenda expects to find while hacking: money, secrets, occasional pictures of cats. She is NOT expecting to find a cryogenically frozen master thief named Mia from the '60s. Mia is everything Brenda is not—cool, confident, beautiful. And utterly unprepared for the digital age. Despite their differences, the two will need to team up to find out what happened to Mia—and how to pull off the biggest heist of the '90s.
SMOOTH CRIMINALS #1 features a main cover by Audrey Mok (Archie, Heroine Chic) and a variant cover by Chynna Clugston Flores (Blue Monday, Scooter Girl).
“Sometimes the secret to lasting best pal-ship is committing a few victimless thefts of incalculable value. Or that could just be why SMOOTH CRIMINALS is such an absolute delight,” said Shannon Watters, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “This is a story about women from different time coming together in the world of 90s where the rules aren’t just meant to be broken – they need to be obliterated. If you want to join the heist of this – or any other – century, you better get ready to ride shotgun with Kiwi, Kurt, and Leisha in November.”
Smooth Criminals #1 will hit comic shops and digital retailers on November 21.
