Godzilla fights a mythical monster in upcoming “Aftershock” graphic novel

It is undisputed fact that Godzilla is the King of the Monsters.  He’s one of the most famous movie characters ever, let alone one of the most famous monsters to ever grace the silver screen.  There’s just something satisfying in seeing a giant lizard creature wrecking a bunch of cities and/or other monsters, and Godzilla is always good to scratch that itch.

In anticipation of Godzilla’s next big screen foray-- the appropriately titled Godzilla: King of the Monsters, due out May of next year-- Legendary have announced a graphic novel titled Godzilla: Aftershock, which will tie directly into the cinematic MonsterVerse of Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island.  Bridging the gap between 2014’s Godzilla and next year’s sequel, Aftershock will pit Godzilla against a brand new monster and introduce a few new characters from the King of the Monsters film.  Really, we’re all here for the monster fights, right?  Character development is all well and good, but, come on.

I rest my case.

Legendary Comics Announces Upcoming Graphic Novel Pitting Godzilla Against a Mythic New Adversary in Set to be released online and in stores in Spring 2019

Fans invited to attend special Legendary Comics’ MonsterVerse panel at Los Angeles Comic Con on October 27 for a chance to receive a limited-edition Godzilla: Aftershock poster

LOS ANGELES, October 25, 2018 – In anticipation of next summer’s big-screen blockbuster, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Legendary Comics announces the thrilling companion graphic novel GODZILLA: AFTERSHOCK, written by Arvid Nelson, with art by Drew Edward Johnson.

Continuing the story of 2014’s Godzilla after the catastrophic events in San Francisco, the King of the Monsters finds himself once again threatened as a terrifying new foe rises from the depths of the earth, unleashing a series of devasting earthquakes and driven by an unstoppable primal instinct that will test the King of Monsters like never before. Godzilla: Aftershock will be available online and in stores in Spring 2019. Follow Facebook.com/LegendaryComics for the latest news and updates.

“Godzilla: Aftershock is yet another exhilarating entry into the canon of the MonsterVerse, and it is especially exciting to introduce fans to a brand new original monster unique to the comic, but true to the legacy of Godzilla,” said Robert Napton, Senior Vice President of Legendary Comics.

Introducing characters from the upcoming movie, the graphic novel also invites readers to delve further into the activities of cryptozoological agency Monarch. The brilliant and driven Monarch operative Dr. Emma Russell races to stop the threat as clues emerge to reveal a terrible secret— a tragedy, of apocalyptic proportions from the distant past that changed the course of human history, is returning to threaten it once more. A shadowy figure stalks Emma’s every move as she travels the globe to uncover secrets, while Godzilla clashes in an ancient rivalry as old as the earth itself. The fate of the world lies in the balance in an epic confrontation that no Godzilla fan will want to miss.

Fans attending Los Angeles Comic Con are invited to get a sneak peek of GODZILLA: AFTERSHOCK at the Legendary Comics panel “Godzilla: Secrets of the MonsterVerse” in Room 403B on Saturday, October 27 at 3pm.
