Rising talent detail the rise of a demigod in Top Cow’s “Ares IX: Darkness” #1

We all have our favorite writers and artists in the industry, there’s no question about that.  You know, the creators who, if you see their name on a book, you buy it without a second thought?  It’s great seeing that familiar name and snapping up a new book for your collection, and possibly getting exposed to some new characters and stories in the process.

What’s also great, though, is seeing new talent being given a chance to cut their teeth.  For instance, DC has various workshops to foster new writers and artists, along with their New Talent Showcase books, and Image Comics have a talent hunt through their Top Cow imprint.  The winners of Top Cow’s newest talent search have been given the chance to collaborate on the upcoming one-shot Ares IX: Darkness, which spins out of the incredibly popular Aphrodite series.  Not a bad first comic, by any means.  Check out the details below.

TOP COW TALENT HUNT WINNERS UNLEASHED ON ARES IX: DARKNESS ONE-SHOT THIS DECEMBER

PORTLAND, OR, 10/29/2018 — Writer Brendan Hodgdon, artist Balazs Valyogos, and cover artist Sara Knaepen—all Top Cow Talent Hunt winners—will release ARES IX: DARKNESS, an all-new one-shot, this December.

In ARES IX: DARKNESS, readers will witness the untold chapter of a demigod’s story. After the Ascension of the IXs, Ares finds himself drawn to a mysterious catacomb. What he finds there will redefine his past, his future, and the entire IXth Generation.

“I'm thrilled to have my first comic book published by Top Cow and to be able to contribute to this exciting universe,” said Hodgdon. “And I'm honored to have Balazs as my collaborator on this issue! Here's hoping the audience enjoys reading ARES IX: DARKNESS as much as we enjoyed making it!”

Ares IX: Darkness #1 will hit comic shops and digital retailers on December 12.
