Prepare to hunt down Celia Lowenthal’s variant cover for BOOM! Studios’ “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” #2

BOOM!’s week-long spotlight on their Buffy the Vampire Slayer reimagining continues today with a variant cover from Celia Lowenthal.  It’s one of those covers that speaks for itself, though I will say those are some simple, striking colors.  Whatever hunt is underway is certainly interesting, too, so it’s piqued my interest.  Check it out below.

Celia Lowenthal Covers BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #2

All-New Cover Reveal Continues Week Long Spotlight on Next Chapter of the LandmarkPop Culture Reimagining in February 2019

LOS ANGELES, CA (November 7, 2018) – BOOM! Studios today unveiled a variant cover to BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #2 by fan favorite artist Celia Lowenthal (Over The Garden Wall: Hollow Town). The next chapter of the hotly-anticipated series will debut in-stores February 13th, 2019, in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products.

The reimagining of Joss Whedon's groundbreaking series continues as Drusilla, the self-proclaimed Mistress and her pet, Spike, make their debut with their sights set on Buffy! Meanwhile, Giles is determined to teach Buffy about her destiny, responsibility, blah blah...can someone tell him to chill? How bad can it get?

Welcome back to the Hellmouth as Eisner Award-nominated writer Jordie Bellaire (Redlands) and Russ Manning Award-winning artist Dan Mora (Klaus, Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers), along with series creator and story consultant Joss Whedon (the visionary writer/director behind Firefly, Marvel’s The Avengers, and more), reimagine the groundbreaking pop culture phenomenon from the very beginning.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer premiered on the WB Network on March 10th, 1997. The Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated series, which ran for seven seasons from 1997-2003, stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as “Buffy Summers.” Chosen to battle vampires, demons and other forces of darkness, Buffy is aided by a Watcher who guides and teaches her as she surrounds herself with a circle of friends called the “Scooby Gang.”

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #2 features a main cover by acclaimed Mondo illustrator Matthew Taylor, along with covers by Kevin Wada (She-Hulk), Ryan Inzana (Ichiro), and Audrey Mok (Archie).

“We’re excited to have Celia join us for a variant cover for the second issue of Jordie and Dan’s incredible vision for Buffy and the gang, and to bring her unique point of view to the story,” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “We’re treating each issue of this series like an event – so if you think Spike and Drusilla are the end of our big reveals, just wait till you get to the last page.”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #2 will hit comic shops and digital retailers on February 13, 2019.
