Ta-Nehisi Coates to write "Captain America" this July

Ta-Nehisi Coates, acclaimed author, journalist, and celebrated writer of the Black Panther comic, has revealed his next writing endeavor: Captain America.

In an op-ed piece at The Atlantic, Coates is refreshingly honest about the responsibility of writing such an important character in comics history.  "I’m not convinced I can tell a great Captain America story—which is precisely why I want so bad to try," he says.  It's a well-written piece, as one would expect, exploring both Coates' self-doubts and his thoughts on the icon that is Captain America.

Coates will be joined by artist Leinil Yu, who will provide interior pencils, with legendary illustrator Alex Ross providing covers.

Captain America #1 will hit comic shops and digital retailers, appropriately enough, on July 4.
