Marvel Comics team up with the Weeknd to produce "Starboy" comic

Crossover is everywhere in the world of pop culture, with actors and musicians trying their hand in the others' respective fields, and some even make second careers in completely different mediums.  Gerard Way is a prime example of this, as the My Chemical Romance front-man has had just as much success, if not more, in writing comic books.  From the critical acclaim of Umbrella Academy to his ongoing success spearheading DC's Young Animal imprint, Way has made a name for himself as one of the most unique voices in comics today.

Following in that vein, another musician has announced that he will be trying his hand at writing comics, as Canadian singer the Weeknd has teamed with Marvel Comics to write a comic adaptation of one of his albums.  Based on his 2016 album Starboy, The Weeknd Presents: Starboy - Volume 1 will follow the titular character as he becomes the protector of the fictional city of Alphatron.  The Weeknd will be joined by writers Christos Gage and La Mar Taylor on scripting duties, and the issue will be illustrated by Eric Nguyen and Guru-eFX.

Head on over to the Marvel blog for more details.

The Weeknd Presents: Starboy - Volume 1 - Issue #1 will hit comic shops and digital retailers on June 13.
