First look at BOOM! Studios' "Planet of the Apes: Visionaries," based on Rod Serling's early script

The original Planet of the Apes film is a classic of science-fiction cinema.  On its own it stands as a landmark achievement in special effects and storytelling, with a shocking ending that is often homaged and parodied while still retaining its power.  It has also spawned an entire franchise, with sequels, a remake, and three increasingly amazing prequel films having been released since its 1968 debut.  That's not to mention comic book series and crossovers, and that one episode of The Simpsons where it was turned into a musical, aka the finest artistic achievement in the history of man.

Today, BOOM! Studios have announced Planet of the Apes: Visionaries, an original graphic novel from writer Dana Gould and artist Chad Lewis, all based on one of Rod Serling's early script treatments.  Comic adaptations like this are always fun, since it puts a new spin on a familiar property; Dark Horse did it a few years ago with The Star Wars, based on an early draft of the original Star Wars film, and there were rumors that Joel Schumacher's canceled Batman Triumphant would get the same treatment, though those were quickly quashed.

Check out the release information below, as well as a first look at Lewis' interior artwork.
