Kazuo Koike, co-creator of “Lone Wolf and Cub,” has died

It’s been reported that manga writer Kazuo Koike has died.

Koike is best known for being the co-creator, with artist Goseki Kojima, of the epic manga Lone Wolf and Cub. The story of an executioner-turned-assassin who takes his young son along with him on his quest for revenge, the 28 volume manga heavily influenced creators like Frank Miller. It also spun off into multiple sequels, films, and television series.

Koike also wrote Golgo 13, having studied under that series’ creator Takao Saito, and even wrote a Hulk manga and a Wolverine story for Marvel.

He was 82.
