Take a look at “The Secret Spiral of Swamp Kid” in a trailer from DC Comics

Of all the great all-ages books that DC have been releasing lately, Kirk Scroggs’ The Secret Spiral of Swamp Kid is by far the weirdest looking one. And I cannot wait to read it.

The book is the journal (not a diary) of young Russell Weinwright, the titular Swamp Kid. Filled with funny doodles, humorous anecdotes, and even some occasional homework (for when teachers are close by and he needs to look like he’s working, natch), the book looks completely original and completely hilarious. DC have released a trailer for the original graphic novel, so check it out along with the details below.

Per DC:

TAKE A PEEK INSIDE RUSSELL WEINWRIGHT’S JOURNAL IN NEW BOOK TRAILER FOR THE SECRET SPIRAL OF SWAMP KID

Written and Illustrated By Kirk Scroggs, The New Swampy Adventure Will Be Available On October 1

Available For Pre-Order Now!

WARNING! Unless Russell Weinwright (a.k.a. Swamp Kid) has given you permission to access his personal journal, do not read any further! This trailer is strictly off-limits!

Okay, if you’re still there, here’s what we can share. On October 1, DC’s newest middle grade graphic novel, THE SECRET SPIRAL OF SWAMP KID, will be available in comic shops and book stores nationwide. Today, DC is giving fans a sneak peek into Swamp Kid’s journal with a brand-new trailer! Featuring middle schooler Russell Weinwright, an excessive doodler, and his best friends Charlotte and Preston, this swampy journal follows Russell’s hilarious journey as Swamp Kid.

In THE SECRET SPIRAL OF SWAMP KID, Russell details, in both humorous text and green-tinted illustrations (complete with ketchup stains!), what it’s like to be different, to be comfortable in his own skin (no matter how slimy), to discover his true talents, to avoid the intense stare of his suspicious science teacher, and to find humor in the everyday weird.

The Secret Spiral of Swamp Kid will hit comic shops on October 1 and can be preordered here.
